Case Description/Summary:
A patron at a hotel bar and/lounge was allegedly injured when her shoe became stuck in the metal threshold of an exterior door while entering the building.
Expert Analysis/Summary:
A human factors and safety analysis included a review of all relevant depositions and other discovery documents, reports, photographs, etc. In addition, a site visit was performed to take all pertinent measurements of the subject doorway and threshold. The human factors analysis included reviewing all possible visual ques to alert the patron of any possibility of a slight change of elevation at the doorway threshold. SPA, inc. reviewed relevant research materials, codes, and standards related to trips and falls, national building standards, visual perception and other human factors engineering aspects related to trip and fall accidents. It was determined that the doorway threshold complied with all local and nationally recognized standards.
Results: Case settled.
